main thing she wanted, and she was thrilled!
Christmas this year was such a wonderful day! The kids woke up promptly at seven, bouncing and ready to tear into the gifts! Having nine children together on Christmas morning was a sight to behold! Thanks to Melanie and Curtis who graciously handled the noise level and additional mess! I will never forget Evey lying on the floor, calmly drinking her bottle admidst the chaos. The kids were so excited to see what Santa brought, and to give one another the gifts they had purchased for eachother. Their were squeals of delight, and smiles all around. I just had to sit back a few times, and laugh with Melanie at the scene before us!
One of my favorite memories this year is the gift I received from Jenna and Abigail. A couple of months ago, I had told them that I would love to have the new book, entitled "The Joseph Smith Papers." But, once I saw the price of $50, I told them that the book was too expensive, and proceeded to give them several other ideas in a more managable price range for them. On Christmas morning, they excitedly handed over their gift to me, and watched me eagerly, with bright eyes, as I unwrapped their present. Inside was a gift receipt for the The Joseph Smith Papers. Then unfolded their Christmas tale. Mike had taken them a month previous to purchase the book for me. Despite the high cost, the girls were determined to aquire this much desired book for their mother. They pooled all of their allowances, tooth fairy money, and any extra cash from jobs they had done. Upon arriving at the store, it was discovered that the book was sold out everywhere. Mike told me that our little girls cried their hearts out, to know that they would not be able to obtain this much wanted gift. Fortunatley, they were able to pay for it, and pre-order the second publishing. They wrapped up the receipt in a large box, with ribbons and sweet words, then presented it to me on Christmas morning. It touched my heart, and brought tears to my eyes to know the sacrafice my girls made to give me such a sweet and memorable gift, and to see that they understand what giving is all about.
The rest of the day was filled with trying out the new gifts - rollerblades, a microscope, a rip-stick, light sabres, video games, a scooter, all the fun Christmas day could bring! We also played games, ate fabulous left overs, and enjoyed one another's company. Thanks again to the Hancocks for a wonderful St. George Christmas!
